Spotlight on NHL Trade Deadline: Teams Ready to Make Moves

And what an exciting time to launch these features to our NHL product, coinciding with the conclusion of the NHL trade deadline (which is Friday, March 8th). So I’m going to break down three NHL teams that I think should be comfortable moving draft pick compensation for immediate help – and you’ll be able to place wagers on those teams soon!

  1. The Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers should be in a win-now mindset as long as they continue to employ the NHL’s best singular talent in Connor McDavid. The fact that the Oilers have yet to make a Stanley Cup with the best player of the current generation is, frankly, embarrassing. And McDavid isn’t the lone star on this team either – you could easily make a case for his teammate Leon Draisaitl as the second-best player in the NHL behind him. The Oilers could use more defensive help on their roster, and they should be willing to part with picks (even first-rounders) for a player like Chris Tanev (CGY defenseman), Noah Hanifin (CGY defenseman) or Jacob Chychrun (OTT defenseman).

  1. Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche are one of the best teams in the NHL. They’ve won a Stanley Cup recently, and they have two of the NHL’s best players in Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Yet…they could use some additional offensive firepower or another rotational (top-four) defensive piece. Given that the Avs won the Cup two years ago, they’d probably like to win it again. If that piece that puts them over the top (Tanev, Vladimir Taraseno of the Senators or even a backup goalie like the Canadiens’ Jake Allen) costs a first round pick, so be it.

  1. New York Rangers

The Rangers are currently first in the Metropolitan Division, so you might be scratching your head as to why I’ve included them. Being a New York franchise constantly on the cusp of a Cup but without one for more than two decades, the Rangers should be open to moving young pieces on the roster or a first-round pick to improve the team. I’m not saying the Rangers need to sell the farm. But there are definitely players that could be in play that I think could improve the Rangers. If they want a bigger fish, a player like Scott Laughton (PHI) or Adam Henrique (ANA) could be worth it.

With the launch of Huddle's improved NHL sports betting product, Huddle is poised to revolutionize the way fans engage with hockey betting. We will continue to innovate and elevate the sports betting experience for our customers.
